6 American journalists visiting Diam

Based in the heart of the cork oak forests of Extremadura, our factory in San Vicente de Alcántara regularly receives visitors from all over world. Customers, journalists and other personalities from within the wine world come to discover the Diam manufacturing process that combines the tradition of cork with cutting edge technologies.

On the 15th of July, after landing in Lisbon, six renowned American specialist wine journalists spent a few days with our teams to learn about our vision, our products and their advantages for each type of wine.  On the program, a visit to the factory, technical presentations, a tour of our laboratory, tastings of quality wines corked with DIAM and Mytik DIAM closures, but more importantly discussions and conviviality!

“I can’t imagine why any winemaker who uses traditional punched corks and who worries about TCA while wanting the same or better characteristics that have made punched corks the closure of choice for centuries wouldn’t at least consider the DIAM corks.”

"[DIAM] takes [the cork] and they clean them and pulverize them into little granules because they really want to get everything out that is nasty and could spoil [the wine]…and then they clean it with something called super critical CO2…which actually is apparently something that is used in other cleaning processes and it’s neutral"

Advances in Closure Quality” by Andrew Adams, Wines & Vines August 2013

“The company [DIAM] employs a unique process using supercritical carbon dioxide to essentially volatize and flush TCA and other contaminants out of the raw cork granulate it uses to form its molded closures. The granulate is tested by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry before and after being treated with supercritical CO2, and the finished closures are also tested to ensure they meet required dimensions and functionality. When the products arrive in the United States, G3 performs its own round of analysis to double check for sensory faults and for performance.”

Thank you again to everyone for your interest and your belief in the quality of DIAM Bouchage closures.
